Shards of Sky Cover Reveal + Preorders
Today is the day.
The moment we’ve all been waiting for.
Yes, here it is, folks--the official cover reveal of my novella, Shards of Sky!
Admittedly, this is a surprise I’ve been holding in for months. When I first received the beautiful cover, I immediately wanted to share it with you all. Unfortunately, that just wasn’t possible, no matter how much I wanted to.
But no, I won’t make you wait any longer. Without further ado, here it is!!

It’s everything I could have hoped for and more. My cover designer, Megan McCullough, did an amazing job capturing the hopefulness of the story in a style I’ve always wanted. And the color scheme is just gorgeous. I also love how it echoes one of the mock covers I designed for Shards of Sky (then called Voiceless), only a thousand times better. Just for fun, I attached the cover process of all the mock ones I’ve created over the months writing Shards of Sky below (and had designed for me by a writer friend).
And the serif font. It took a couple of tweaks, but when I designed the first mock cover for Shards of Sky, I knew in my graphic designer gut that the serif font was the perfect one to convey that “classy and polished, but soulful” look. And I think it fits beautifully with this cover.
And the cat. Knowing me, yes, I had to request adding Aryon’s cat to the cover.
My favorite part is also the gnarly branches, and how the stars keep shining through.
Everything about this cover is perfect. I love how it displays so many aspects of the story.
But now for the most exciting part. . .
You can now preorder Shards of Sky and read it for yourself, and in addition, if you submit your receipt here, you’ll get a packet of preorder goodies, including some beautiful art from Shards of Sky, a printable bookmark, desktop wallpapers, and more!

Looking at all of them, I can totally see how much Shards of Sky has changed over the years. I designed the first cover when I was still trying to get a clear grasp of the story idea--hence the subtitle. The second cover was designed as I neared the end of my first draft, still trying to capture the significance of the violin in a bold way. And then the third was designed for me by a fellow writer after the third draft was looked over by betas and the title changed, while I was working out Jenn’s personal journey and taking the spotlight off of Aryon (though Aryon must really hate me by now).
The last cover expresses the grand finale of the cover journey beautifully, hopeful but in the hand-drawn style I love. Simple. But hopeful. And significantly darker than the other three. ;)
To wrap this post up, I'll be sharing two of my top favorite scenes from Shards of Sky. But before I start, if you've read Shards of Sky already (as a beta, or ARC reader), what was your favorite scene from Shards of Sky? I'd love to hear from you!
Without further ado, here they are:
Jenn turned and walked away in open defiance, out onto the porch. Her rebelliousness crumbled and she sucked in a breath, then let it out slowly.
Slowly.
She looked up at the sky, the sea of endless bright blue. Somewhere out there was her Dad. Her Dad. Not any other girl’s—but hers.
She was just waiting. Waiting for him to come, because that was what mattered. Standing right there on the deck and staring into a sea of blue, she felt her hopes soaring again, the eight years of waiting shattering into insignificance. He seemed so close—so close that she could reach out and step into his hug.
Who knew? Any minute, he could appear. And change their lives.
Dad, when are you coming?

Jenn sat up.
Around her, a blaze of color ignited with a spark of life. A bluebird fluttered by, wings a flashing pinwheel of blue that reflected the sky. The shrill song of a warbler made its way through the maze in her mind.
Her hands were scarred by brambles—scars from her journey. Her soul felt heavy enough that she could barely resist the imagined downward pull of the earth.
Jenn felt as though a butterfly often does when it emerges from a cocoon—different and odd, as though she wasn’t the same person anymore. She almost felt as though she had been transformed—but in a way that was no longer remarkable, no longer beautiful, no longer whole.
Ready to jump into a soulful story with tear-jerking moments (and I’m not just saying that. I may or may not have cried over my writing for the first time ever.)? I’d love to have you join Jenn and Aryon on their journey!
Lastly, what are your thoughts on the cover? Do you love it as much as I do (I hope so!)?
Stay tuned for more fun blog posts as I prepare for Shards of Sky’s official launch on April 18, 2021!
Congratulations Emaline! Sooo happy for you! Reading your piece here reminds me that the art of book writing demands flexibility in ideation and all through putting the cover designs. I love the way you give us a glimpse of the rigor, persistence and passion that’s necessary to book authorship! Thank you for sharing your creative journey and inspiring many to awaken their dreams!
So excitedddddd
Can’t wait until the official release! *insert running around here*
It’s amazing! I love it!
