Look Up and See Your Faithful God
You see it on the news. You see it everywhere.
COVID-19 pandemic. Riots. Destruction. It’s truly heartbreaking and more evident than ever to see how broken our world has become. Nowadays, it’s harder and harder to stay optimistic and to keep our eyes on our Savior.
But I’m here to tell you that it’s not always the case.
As we delve deeper into His Word, we can see that God instructs us to put our trust in Him. We know that the God we serve is a faithful God, as it says in Hebrews 10:23. “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful” (bolded words mine).
Therefore, all His promises still stand, even thousands of years later.
And He promises that He will never leave or forsake us. He will never abandon us. He will always watch over us and protect those who trust in Him.
We can see examples of this in Scripture as God helps David through his trials, even while he’s being pursued by jealous Saul. His trust in God can be seen in Psalm 18:3, as he writes:
“I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies.”
And again, in Psalm 18:6:
“In my distress, I called upon the Lord, and I cried to my God for help. From His temple, He heard my voice, and my cry for His help reached His ears.”
God hears us when we call to him. He sees us when we’re suffering. That’s why it’s important to look up.
I like to think of it this way. One afternoon a few months ago, I was out hiking in the wilderness. There was beautiful scenery, a beautiful trail, but all I saw was the dirt and the grueling uphill climb.
I began to realize that I was missing out on everything around me. The trees and everything God had created. Because I was so stuck on staring down at the hardships I was facing, I had failed to notice anything about the hike other than the dirt path.
This can happen so much in my own life. I became so fixated on constantly looking down at the “dirt” in my life--the news, pandemic, quarantine, to name a few--and sometimes I tend to let the blessings--God’s promises in His word, family, pets, a safe home, support--slip by, unnoticed.
In conclusion, I challenge you today--instead of looking down at the “dirt” in your life, to look up.
And when you do, you’ll see the things that God has so abundantly blessed you with.
What do you need to “look up” from? What are some blessings in your life? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
