5 Favorite Lines from A Change of Heart
In this post, I'll be sharing my favorite lines from my published book, A Change of Heart.
Before I get started, if you’re interested in purchasing my book, click here. I would be so grateful:)
Without further ado, let’s jump in!
1. “No! I don’t ever want to be poor!”
This quote already gives a glimpse into the internal struggle of my main character, Odele Bryne. Basically, she has an inner fear of being thrown into poverty...a poverty so deep that she’ll actually sink to the level of the villagers. I personally like this line because it shows how arrogant and straightforward my main character is.
2. “I don’t have a daughter. She’s dead.”
Personally, this is from a scene that was very fun to write. These cold words, spoken by her mother, nearly broke Odele’s heart in a way. Her relationship with her mother has always been strong--but something is thrown in that causes her mother to resent her without reason.
3. “He might shoot you! He might kidnap you! Do you think you can make it there alone?”
Here’s a scene where Edward, a supporting character, questions Odele’s own ability to think straight. Or rather, think seriously for that matter. Edward and Odele’s relationship isn’t the best, as she constantly has no respect for him and snaps at him continuously throughout the story, even when he offers sympathy. I personally love seeing how Edward and Odele’s relationship grows from Odele despising him to. . .well, friendship.
4. “You call it shop. We call it la tienda.”
This is spoken by another loveable supporting character, Amanda. She speaks Spanish fluently and barely knows how to speak English. The first girl to take Odele into her home and heart after her home is destroyed by a fire, her gratitude isn’t repaid until later on.
5. “. . .because sometimes life will be hard, but we must count it all joy, because Jesus endured the cross for us.”
This is by far my favorite quote for a reason. In a distant flashback from Odele’s earlier memories, she remembers her mother’s distant love for the Bible and God’s Word, which ultimately leads her on a journey of courage in the sequel, which is still a work-in-progress.
That was so much fun to write! I hope you enjoyed these quotes! Now, I want to know. . . have you read A Change of Heart? If so, what were your favorite lines? Which lines out of these three make you want to read the book?
